About

Our story

Hello, I’m Louise and I’m the main face behind Sherbet Home. The business was born out of necessity and curiosity – and it has turned into a passion!

For many of us, the idea of ‘make do and mend’ isn’t just a wartime slogan – it has been a necessity in our lives. I trained initially as an English lecturer and spent many happy years teaching but still found some time to re-imagine bits of old furniture that came my way so that they suited my home. (My kitchen table is still an old lab desk that was being thrown out by a college I worked at. It has undergone numerous transformations!) When I found myself a single mum of two boys the need to save money by recycling became even more important and the more I did, the more I despaired at the amount of good furniture that was being thrown out, often ending up in landfill,  just because it wasn’t  ‘on trend’ . And so nearly 10 years ago Sherbet Home was born.

My gorgeous boys are now grown up and so has the business. With lots of help and support from  my partner, Joel, we operate from a workshop on a working fruit farm in Somerset (with friendly geese and guinea fowl on patrol outside!) and spend our days with paint and paper making old, unloved furniture loveable again…

We’re based in South Somerset and offer personal local delivery for a small cost but can help arrange couriers if you’re further afield.

Do get in touch if there’s anything we can help with.

Best wishes,,

Louise and Joel
